Donald Plummer, 85, of South Bristol and Newcastle, known to many as “DAP,” passed away unexpectedly at his home in Sheepscott Village on Aug. 10. He was born in South Bristol on Jan. 29, 1926, the youngest of 13. On Aug. 18, 1944, he married Ethel Carney.
He was a WWII Veteran, having spent two years in the U.S. Navy. Once discharged from the service, he worked many jobs including carpentry at Bath Iron Works, service station attendant, and various odd jobs, but his greatest job was being a husband and father to his family, often going without to provide for others. After retiring he spent his time with his wife and performed handy work around the neighborhood. He enjoyed his gardens, hunting, camping in New Hampshire at Dolly Copp, working in his shop and spending time with his family. Donald was known as a people person. He was a 50-year member of the Freemasons.
He was predeceased by his wife Ethel Plummer; both parents; all his brothers and sisters; daughter-in-law, Marie Plummer; and sons-in-law, Bob Lermond, Sterling Collamore and Francis Davis.
Donald is survived by daughters, Dianne Davis of Hope, Eileen Plummer of Gardiner and Beverly Plummer-Weatherhead of Damariscotta; sons, Paul Plummer of Wiscasset and Mark Plummer and wife Crystal of Newcastle; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; as well as too many friends to list.
Per the family’s request, a burial will be performed 4 p.m., Thurs., Aug. 25 for both Donald and Ethel at the Sheepscott Community Cemetery at the family lot, followed by a public drop-in celebration of life for Donald from 5-8 p.m. at the Sheepscott Community (Harriet Byrd) clubhouse.
