Donald C. Tibbetts, 88, of Whitefield, passed away March 25 at Country Manor Nursing Home in Coopers Mills with family by his side.
Donald was born in Whitefield on May 13, 1920, the son of Charles and Gladys (MacDonald) Tibbetts. He attended both Whitefield and Gardiner High Schools.
He was a member of Whitefield Odd Fellows, and the Whitefield School board for many years. He was also the Whitefield Forest Fire Warden.
Donald enjoyed working in the woods and he loved going to dances. He enjoyed his horses and competed in draft horse pulling competitions at local fairs for a number of years and at one time owned the largest draft horse in Maine.
Donald was predeceased by an infant son, Terrence M. Tibbetts; brother, Harry E. Tibbetts; and sister, Dorothy Hardy.
He is survived by three sons, Daniel C. Tibbetts and wife Sandra of Windsor, Barry J. Tibbetts and wife Elaine of Whitefield, and Dwight C. Tibbetts and wife Marianne of Windsor; three daughters, Barbara S. Chubbuck and husband Gene of Windsor, Roxanne L. Malley and husband Mike of Vassalboro, and Marjorie L. Deabay and husband Scott of Carmel; brother, Stanley A. Tibbetts of Whitefield; sisters, Louise Comer and husband Jack of South Dakota, Mary Page of Winslow, and Clara Mayo and husband George of Windsor; 21 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours 7-9 p.m., Sat., March 28 at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 207 Windsor Neck Rd., Windsor, where a funeral service will be held 3 p.m., Sun., March 29. Rev. Branan Becknell, Pastor of Littlefield Memorial Baptist Church in Rockland, and former Pastor of Windsor Memorial Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be in the spring at Whitefield Cemetery in Whitefield.
