Donald F. Tibbetts, 90, of Waldoboro, died peacefully on April 29 at the Knox Center in Rockland, surrounded by his loving family.
Donald was born Jan. 19, 1917 in Mt. Vernon, the son of Forrest and Elsie Curtis Tibbetts.
Donald grew up in Mount Vernon and attended local schools. He started working at Herbert Tibbett’s sawmill and raked blueberries on his family farm in Waldoboro, after which he worked at the Warren Barrel Factory in Warren for 27 years.
Donald was a hard worker and raked his own blueberries until the age of 87. He enjoyed tending to his vegetable and flower gardens, and deer hunting.
In 1953, he joined the Warren Baptist Church where he was a lifetime member. He loved his pets especially his favorite dog, Dusty, a golden retriever.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Lillian M. Tibbetts; son, Roy A. Tibbetts; his second wife, Frances E. Tibbetts; and sisters, Beulah Williams, Zenna Tibbetts, Virginia Tibbetts, and Priscila Nightingail.
He is survived by his daughter, Mary Tibbetts McIntre and husband Jim of Waldoboro; stepdaughters, Roberta Tibbetts and husband Cliff of Waldoboro, and Janet Carroll and husband Howard of Waldoboro; stepson, Leland Martz and companion Fran of Winterport; grandsons, Donnie Tibbetts of South Hope, and Gerry Allen of Unity; a special sister-in-law, Shirley Perkins and husband Virgil of South Hope; eight step grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Graveside service 11 a.m., Fri., May 4 at Brookland Cemetery in South Waldoboro with the Rev. Tom Rawley officiating.
