Donald George Webb, 91, of Pittston, died peacefully Sept. 13 at his home.
He was born April 8, 1927 to Birdie and George Webb at their home in Pittston where he lived his entire life. Don attended the Pittston and Gardiner schools. He married Evelyn May Bowie in 1950 and they shared 44 loving years. After her death, Don married Jean Leavitt in 1997.
Don’s great joy in life was farming. He followed family tradition by entering the family dairy business as a child, moving on to raising beef cows for a number of years before eventually returning to a combination of dairy and beef cows. Don hauled pulp wood all over the state in addition to farming. It was a great joy for dad to arrive home with the special treat of jelly-filled doughnuts. Don also worked for the Percy Baily Garage, the railroad, S.D. Warren and the State of Maine. He retired from the state but continued farming up to the time of his death.
Growing up, Don played many a game of sixty-three with neighbors and friends on Saturday night. He also played a mean hand of cribbage and checkers. He looked forward to Thursdays because he knew the new Uncle Henry’s would be in the mail.
Don was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gardiner for over 66 years where he served on multiple committees, including the finance committee for 47 years. He was also a member of Marion Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, and the Hermon Masonic Lodge. He was a selectman for the town of Pittston for 20 years, also serving as road commissioner and in several other positions in town government.
Mr. Webb was predeceased by his parents, George and Birdie; wife, Evelyn; brother, Harold Webb; sister, Marion Williams; son, Thomas Minchin; grandson, Thomas Minchin Jr.; and great-granddaughter, Ava Webb.
He is survived by wife, Jean; children, Margo Willette and husband Darrell of Chesapeake, Va., Nancy Minchin, Donald E.
