Donald Leroy Dyer, 74, of Waldoboro, formerly of Friendship, died July 4 at Maine Medical Center in Portland. Born on Jan. 21, 1938 in Union, he was the son of Leroy and Gladys (Philbrook) Dyer.
Mr. Dyer was a graduate of Waldoboro High School, a member of the class of 1955. Soon after his graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served honorably as an M.P. in the U.S. and Germany. After his military discharge, he worked as a truck driver for many years, and later delivered oil for Norman Gray. He enjoyed spending time at Moosehead, playing cards, league bowling and dancing.
Besides his father, he was predeceased by his wife of 42 years, Evelyn L. (Simmons) Dyer, who passed away on July 18, 2008.
In addition to his mother of Waldoboro, Mr. Dyer is survived by a daughter, Kim Strong and partner Jounda of California; sons, Dean Stacy Dyer and wife Star of Colorado, Dana A. Dyer and wife Lelia of Waldoboro, Daren A. Dyer and wife Bethany of Hope, Donald A. Dyer and wife Kelly of Warren, and Douglas A. Dyer of Warren; grandchildren, Bryan Sibley of California, Danielle Sibley of Louisiana, Dean and Joshua Dyer of Waldoboro, Gardner Dyer, USMC, Camp Lejeune, N.C., Danielle Ward and husband Kurt of Norfolk, Va., Laura Dyer of Waldoboro, Natasha Dyer of Arrowsic, Casey and Eathan Dyer of Hope, Cierra Dyer of Warren, and Anika Dyer of Hope; brother, Clayton Dyer and wife Lee of South Portland; sister, Maxine Poland and husband James of Round Pond; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to join his family for a graveside service 10 a.m., Sat., July 14 in the German Protestant Cemetery, Bremen Rd., Waldoboro.
