Donna R. Bond, 82, passed away Nov. 24 at the Sussman House in Rockport. Donna was born Sept. 29, 1936 in Rockland, the daughter of George William Rogers and Annie (Overlock) Rogers.
Donna attended Thomaston High School and then continued her education at Westbrook Junior College where she studied business. On July 8, 1956 Donna married Ellis Addison Bond of Jefferson.
Donna worked alongside her husband Ellis running Bond Brothers Grocery store until the sale in 1987, at which point she began her retirement. Donna took great passion in serving the needs of others in her community. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Jefferson and spent many years organizing and hosting suppers to help raise money to support the church. She was active in the Ladies’ Aid helping organize many catering functions for the church. Donna also volunteered at the Jefferson Food Bank from the 1990s until 2016. Donna enjoyed decorating for each holiday and loved to cook, always experimenting with new recipes. She will be remembered for her fabulous pies which began with her selling them at the grocery store when she was in her early 20s.
Donna is survived by her husband of 62 years, Ellis; son, Scott Bond and wife Dianne Shostak of Jefferson; daughter, Stacy Morin and husband David Morin of Jefferson; grandchildren, Austin Bond of Jefferson, Addison Cox and wife Lea of Warren, Meryl Bond and fiance Jordan Grady of Whitefield, and Avery Bond of Jefferson; great-grandchildren, Elena Cox and Sawyer Cox of Warren.
Honoring the wishes of Donna, she has requested there not be a funeral but a graveside service that will be held in the spring of 2019 at the Bond Cemetery in Jefferson.
