Doris C. Glidden, 87, of Newcastle, passed away peacefully the morning of June 5 at Cove’s Edge Nursing Home, with caring and dedicated staff and her son, David, by her side. She was born July 4, 1920, in Rockland, the daughter of Carl O. and Ethel R. (Pierce) Borgerson.
She married Bentley L. Glidden July 3, 1943, in Rockland.
Doris attended Rockland High School, where she graduated with honors, in the Class of 1938. She continued her education at Bates College, where she earned a degree in teaching. She taught at Lincoln Academy as well as Wiscasset High School, where she served as head of the English Department.
An active member of the Second Congregational Church, Newcastle, she served on the Board of Deacons and was the church historian for many years.
Doris was predeceased by her husband Bentley and son, Robert “Bob” Glidden.
She is survived by her son David of Newcastle; brother, Donald Borgerson of Rockland; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service 1 p.m., Tues., June 10 at the Second Congregational Church, Newcastle, with Rev. Ken Dale officiating. She will be laid to rest with her husband and son at the Pine Knoll Cemetery, Newcastle.
Arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Strong Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 612 Main St., Damariscotta.
