Dorothea Frederickson Armstrong, 90, of Newcastle, passed away on a beautiful Spring day, April 30, at Cove’s Edge in Damariscotta.
She was born in Far Hills, N.J. on June 23, 1917, the daughter of Frank G. and Clara Witt Enstice. She graduated from Roxbury High School, Succasunna, N.J. in 1936, and then attended Montclair State in Montclair, N.J.
On May 29, 1938 she married Frederick J. Frederickson. They moved to Long Valley, N.J. at the end of WWII where they raised their two daughters.
Dorothea was employed by M&M Candies in Hackettstown, N.J. for 13 years in the Traffic Dept. After living in Chester, N.J. for 10 years they moved to Newcastle in 1980. Dorothea’s husband, F.J. Frederickson died in 1983. In 1988 she married Richard H. Armstrong.
Dorothea was a founding member, and one of the early residents of the Washington TWP P.T.A. in Long Valley, N.J. She was on the church council of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Long Valley, N.J. where she was a member of the Long Valley Women’s Club. In Maine she was a volunteer at Miles Memorial Hospital at one time. She was a talented seamstress who made all her clothes and those of her daughters. She was also a great baker.
Dorothea was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Marian Mulligan who died in 1988 and her husband Dick Armstrong who died in 2005.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Elna and Charles G. Parke of Schooley’s Mt., N.J.; three granddaughters, Molly Petty and husband Charles of Blairstown, N.J., Melissa Mauro and husband David of Mt. Olive, N.J., and Katie Bryant and husband Jim of Cresson, Tex.; five great-grandchildren, Bristol and Brette Petty, Bill and Nick Mauro and Frances Bryant; three nieces, Elisabeth Lutz, Dorothea McConnell and Sandrea Povse; nephew, Eugene Enstice; three step children, and many step grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Memorial service at Water of Life Lutheran Church, Newcastle, 4 p.m., Sun., May 18. Interment for family will be at Lerman Valley Rural Cemetery in Long Valley, N.J.
