Dorothy Alice “Babe” Lewis, 78, of Boothbay Harbor, passed away Sept. 24 at the Cove’s Edge in Damariscotta after a period of failing health.
Babe was born Oct. 20, 1932 in Boothbay Harbor, the daughter of Frank N. and Arletta Barter Lewis, and was a graduate of Boothbay Harbor High School.
As a young lady she worked as a nanny for Dr. Andrew’s family in the harbor, and for over 35 years was a chamber maid at the Captain Fish’s Motel.
She loved to go for walks and tried to spend each day at the ocean, loved her poodles, and was well known for her hard work ethic.
She is predeceased by her brothers Doug, Glenn and Louie Lewis; sister, Gwendolyn Lewis; and nephews, Charles Mason Jr., Chester Dana Mason and David Mason.
Survivors include her sister, Evelyn Mason of Lewiston; nephews, Russell Mason of Lewiston and Glenn Lewis of Wiscasset; nieces, Janet Fairfield of Wiscasset, Sandy Clark of Windham, Fran Lewis of Portland, LaVaughn Wilcox of Casco, Celia Connell of Virginia Beach, Va. and Judith Chapman of Brendon, Fla.; sisters-in-law, Alice Lewis of Casco and Eleanor Lewis of Wiscasset; close friend whom she thought of as a sister, Irma Heaberlin and her children, Ricky Heaberlin, Julie Simmons and Martin Heaberlin; and dog, Gigi.
Graveside service 10 a.m., Sat., Oct. 1 at the Oak Lawn Cemetery, Boothbay Harbor.
