Dorothy Alice Lessner Roberts, 80, of Nobleboro, died April 24 at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta where she and all of her children were born.
She was born Oct. 23, 1929 in Damariscotta, a daughter of the late Henry and Ida (Turmaine) Lessner.
Mrs. Roberts attended the Castner School in Damariscotta and Lincoln Academy in Newcastle. On Sept. 23, 1947 she married Raymond W. Roberts Jr. in Newcastle. For 21 years they lived in Groveland, Mass. where her husband worked as foreman of Groveland and Georgetown Municipal Light Departments. Over the years she worked at Sylvania in Waldoboro, Union Mission Nursing Home and Haverhill Manor in Haverhill, Mass. Mrs. Roberts was the secretary/ treasurer for the Damariscotta Senior Citizens Group.
Mrs. Roberts was an avid and talented needle worker. She crocheted many Mobius shawls, hats and warm things for various charities in addition to the toys, afghans and warm clothing for many. She was a wonderful cook who fed all with joy. She collected many cookbooks. Mrs. Roberts will be remembered for her ability to see the good in everyone. She unconditionally accepted everyone she was associated with.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Richard Roberts, who died May 2009.
In addition to her loving husband of more than 64 years of Nobleboro, Mrs. Roberts is survived by her children, Raymond W. Roberts III of Winchester, N.H., June Jolin of Groveland, Mass., Janet Hammond of Edgecomb, David Roberts of Nobleboro, Holly Roberts of Nobleboro, and Eric Roberts of Nobleboro; grandchildren, Raymond W. Roberts IV of Colorado, Aarron Roberts of New York, April Burke and Stacy Spinney, both of Jefferson, Elizabeth Hammond of Waterville, Jill Jolin of Salem, Mass., Jeff Jolin of Groveland, Mass., Jennifer Nadzan of Manchester, N.H., and Bret, Katlyn, Patrick and Shannon Roberts of New Canney, Tex.; Godson, Paul Jackson of Los Angeles, Cal.; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for an open house to celebrate Mrs. Robert’s life, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sun., May 2 at the Robert’s Farm, 775 West Neck Rd., Nobleboro.
