Dorothy Augusta (Darling) Brown, died peacefully on July 26 in Damariscotta with her family by her side. Dorothy was born on June 8, 1915 in Somerville, Mass. to Edward B. and Marguerite (Hutchins) Darling.
Dorothy was a graduate of Medford High School. Throughout her years in Medford, she was active in the Methodist-Episcopal church. She married V. Allen Brown of Edgecomb in 1935. After moving to Edgecomb, she became the treasurer for the town. She later resigned when she and Allen moved to Bremen where they operated Allen’s lobster business, known as the Lusty Lobster, Inc. She was the bookkeeper for the business until she retired in 1980. The Browns became residents of Florida and lived in Fort Meyers for a numbers of years, summering in East Boothbay and later in East Edgecomb.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Allen, in 2000; grandson, Kenneth Allen Brown; brother, Robert F. Darling; and sister-in-law, Gwen Darling.
She is survived by her son, Robert R. Brown and wife Cynthia; sister, Ruth Hall and children, David Hall and wife Pat, and Jeanne Hall Mellen and husband, Gerald; nieces, Pam Trainor and Pat Ammiroult; granddaughter, Dianne Brown Gustafson Peirce and husband Lyle Peirce and children, Michael, Nicholas, Andy, and Jeanna Gustafson; daughter-in-law, Evelin Brown Stanley and children, Karen, and James Brown; step-grandson, Mike Orff; and three great-great-grandchildren.
At Mrs. Brown’s request there will be no funeral. At a date to be decided, the family will gather to honor and remember her life.
