Dorothy (Davis) Sherwood, 89, formerly of Marblehead, Mass., died July 7 at her residence, Edgecomb Green assisted living.
Dorothy was born in Kennebunk on Nov. 20, 1923, the daughter of Charles L. and Agnes (Howard) Davies.
Following her graduation from Wells High School in 1941, she worked at Raytheon in Newton, Mass., assembling radio tubes for the war effort. There she met Walter E. “Bob” Sherwood Jr., a draftsman who also worked on defense projects at Raytheon. They married in 1943 and moved to Marblehead in 1952.
During her 50 years in Marblehead, Dorothy volunteered at the Mary Alley Hospital and later joined the League of Women Voters and the Marblehead Historical Society. She enjoyed travel, gardening, needlework, antiquing, and Scrabble, but her greatest love was for her family and her many life-long friends.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Bob; and daughter, Pamela Sherwood Lenz.
Surviving family members include children, Suzanne Sherwood of Wiscasset, Elizabeth LeBlanc and husband Ron of Lynn, Mass., and Walter E. Sherwood IV and wife Nancy of Danvers, Mass.; grandchildren, Elizabeth Cole of Brunswick, Diane Melancon of Silver Spring, Md., Brian LeBlanc of St. Maarten, Netherlands Antilles, Jessica Sherwood of Danvers, Mass.; and great-grandchildren, Emma and Ross Clayton of Brunswick.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m., Sat., Sept. 21 at the Edgecomb Congregational Church. Private interment will be at Waterside Cemetery in Marblehead, Mass.
