Dorothy Elinor (Reinking) Day, of Bristol, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on March 5.
Dorothy was born in Napoleon, Ohio on Feb. 20, 1931. She was the fourth child, and only daughter, of Ferdinand and Josephine Reinking. Dorothy grew up in Napoleon and later attended Flower Hospital Nursing Program and received her nursing diploma in 1951.
Dorothy was married to Lyman Robert Day on May 5, 1956, and together they raised four children, Jonathan, Jennifer, Christopher and Benjamin.
Dorothy retired from Rockville General Hospital in Connecticut as the operating room supervisor in 1983 when she and Lyman moved to Bristol. She later returned to nursing part time at the Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta and private duty nursing, finishing her career in 2001.
She is predeceased by her husband, Lyman; son, Benjamin; and brothers, John and William.
Dorothy is survived by sons, Jonathan of Bristol, and Christopher of Cape Coral, Fla.; daughter, Jennifer of Augusta; and brother, Franklin of Greensboro, N.C.
Friends and family are invited to a time of visitation 6-8 p.m., Fri., March 12 at Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main St., Damariscotta. Graveside service 1 p.m., Sat., March 13 in the Bristol Mills Cemetery, and a Memorial Service on Sun., March 14 at the Water of Life Church on Rt. 1 in Newcastle.
