Dorothy F. Chatfield, 90, passed away peacefully on July 17. She and her husband Donald, who passed last October, were long time Pemaquid Harbor residents.
Growing up during the Depression, Dorothy learned the value of faith, hope, hard work and integrity.
Dorothy met the man she would marry while working at Curtiss-Wright Aeronautical, where she worked the switchboard and he was an engineer.
Wartime rationing and the need to carpool threw them together, and the rest, as they say, is history!
Dot and Don raised three children and when the chance came, Dorothy took the job of ‘Purchasing Agent’ for American Looseleaf, but they always had the dream of moving to Maine.
In 1971, that dream came true when they moved to Pemaquid Harbor.
Dorothy, a longtime collector, opened her own antique shop. She also enjoyed hooking and braiding rugs, and tried her hand at basket weaving.
She and Don were also long time employees of DB&T until they retired.
They sailed the Maine coast extensively and crisscrossed the US and Canada by car many times.
She is survived by her three children; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
There will be no wake, and a private graveside service is planned.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her name to First Responders of New Harbor, The Pine Tree Society of Bath, or the Good Shepherd Food Bank.
Cards of sympathy may be sent to Judith Nevius, 14 Vincent Rd., Chemsford, MA 01842.
Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main St., Damariscotta.
