Dorothy G. Hardy, 82, of Coopers Mills, died April 9 at Maine General Medical Center in Augusta after a brief illness. Dorothy was born on Jan. 12, 1926 in Whitefield, the daughter of Charles and Gladys Tibbetts. She attended local schools and graduated from Erskine Academy in 1944. After attending the Augusta School of Business, she worked for Central Maine Power Company and Rogers Jewelers. She married Lawrence J. Hardy on June 12, 1949.
Dot was a homemaker and also worked for many years as a bookkeeper at her brother’s local dairy farm. Dot and Larry were members of St. Denis Catholic Church for many years and she was an active member of the Altar Society. Among her greatest joys in life were spending time with her family and being affectionately known as “Nana Dot” to her beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many who knew her. She also enjoyed the Maine coast, cooking, taking trips with family and friends and was an avid Red Sox fan.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Larry in 2000.
She is survived by her three children, William Hardy and wife Sheena of Fryeburg, Patricia Northrup and husband Randy of Whitefield, and Katherine Smith and husband Ron of Coopers Mills; six grandchildren, Tracy Northrup of Whitefield, Matthew Northrup and wife Heather of Whitefeld, Jonathan Hardy of Berkley, Cal., James Hardy of Pittsburgh, Penn., and Victoria and Shane Smith of Coopers Mills; three great-grandchildren, Cameron Hodgdon and Colby and Miranda Northrup all of Whitefield; three brothers, Donald Tibbetts, Harry Tibbetts and Stanley Tibbetts all of Whitefield; and three sisters, Louise Comer of Rapid City, S.D., Mary Page of Winslow and Clara Mayo of Windsor.
A private family service is planned.
