Dorothy L. Lewis, 87, of Wiscasset, died Sept. 25 at her residence.
She was born in Wiscasset on June 24, 1922, a daughter of Edwin S. and Alice M. (Shea) Pooler. She attended Wiscasset schools and graduated from Wiscasset Academy in 1940. She graduated from Pellchiers Beauty School in 1941. She was married to John M. Lewis for 24 years. She owned and operated a beauty salon in Wiscasset and later worked at Dodge Inn Dog House in Edgecomb. She then established the Calgadee Market on Route One in Wiscasset. For 23 years she was employed at the Wiscasset News Stand.
She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Wiscasset where she was active in the Ladies Organ Society knitting various things for the church missions. She was a 50 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Wiscasset, and a member of the Wiscasset Grange and the 4 H Club in Wiscasset.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren, watching the Boston Celtics and Red Sox, knitting and playing cribbage which she usually would play regularly at the Wiscasset Senior Center.
She was predeceased by a brother, George N. Pooler.
She is survived by her son, Gary L. Lewis and wife Mary A. of Lincoln; daughters, The Rev. Deanna J. Lewis and husband Jerry E. of Centralia, Kan., and Corinne A. Hodsdon and husband Chris A. of Jefferson; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours 6-8 p.m., Tues., Sept. 29 at Daigle Funeral Home, 40 Federal St., Wiscasset. Funeral service 1 p.m., Wed., Sept. 30 at The First Congregational Church of Wiscasset with John Potter officiating. Burial will follow in Wiscasset. A gathering of family and friends will follow at the Church Fellowship Hall.
