Dorothy Rice Booth, 106, passed away peacefully at St. Andrews Village in Boothbay Harbor on March 1.
Dorothy was born Sept. 7, 1905 in East Boothbay, a daughter of William E. and Nellie Murray Rice, attended local schools and was a graduate of Lincoln Academy and Gorham Normal School.
For several years she taught school in Boothbay and Auburn. After the death of her husband, J. Edward Booth Jr., she obtained employment in the York Division of Bates Manufacturing Company in Saco as assistant to the cost accountant. For seven years she managed the office at Sewall Wood Products in West Scarborough. Returning to East Boothbay in 1965, she worked in the office at Fisherman’s Wharf and Rocktide Motel in Boothbay Harbor.
Dorothy continued driving her car until she was 101 years old. At her home in Murray Hill she could be found gardening and playing piano when she wasn’t watching golf and her beloved Patriots and Red Sox (Ted Williams was her favorite player).
She was holder of the Boston Post Cane for Boothbay. She thrived after moving to St. Andrews Village in 2008. She referred to the staff as her extended family and they referred to her as “Aunt Dot.” While at the Village, she could be found playing bingo, attending exercise classes and snacking on a variety of sweets, especially dark chocolate. She had a good sense of humor and infectious smile.
Aunt Dot is survived by several nephews, grandnephews and nieces, great-grandnephews and nieces, and a great-great-grandnephew and niece.
At her request, no services will be held.
