Dorothy W. Church, 83, of Waldoboro, and former longtime resident of Thomaston, passed away on June 20, surrounded by her children and grandchildren at the Maine Medical Center in Portland, following a brief illness.
Mrs. Church was born May 30, 1924 in Thomaston, a daughter of Wilson H. and Mabel Overlock Weaver. She attended Thomaston schools.
She left school at a young age to support herself, working at various companies in Knox County, most notably, the Port Clyde Canning Company.
Most recently, she resided at the Knox Apartments in Thomaston, before moving to Waldoboro to live with her daughter when she could no longer live alone.
She loved her favorite friend, Symone, her pet dog. She loved window curtains and changed them weekly, and she loved spending time with her family and going to yard sales with her daughter, Deborah.
Dot was known for her cooking abilities and was quick to share her creations with family, friends, and members of the Saturday night church services at the Knox Apartments.
She was predeceased by her son, Jeff Benner; her first husband, William Staples, Sr.; second husband, Norman Benner; third husband, John Jackson; and fourth husband, Malcolm Church.
Survivors include her sons, William “Sonny” Staples, Jr. and wife Arlene of Washington, Norman P. Benner and wife Dawn of Friendship, Ronald M. Benner of Wells, and Gary H. Benner and wife Rhonda of Friendship; daughters, Veronica Andersen and husband Larry of Cornville, Marlene H. Burnham and husband David of Waldoboro, and Deborah A. Miller of Waldoboro; 19 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours Sat., June 23 at Hall Funeral Home, Waldoboro.
Funeral service Sun., June 24 at the Thomaston Baptist Church. Interment followed in Lakeview Cemetery, Union.
