Douglas Moulton Schumann of Ocean Point, East Boothbay, passed away at his home on May 21.
He was born in Woburn, Mass., on Feb. 11, 1932, the son of Harold Christian and Eva Moulton Schumann.
Doug graduated from Wakefield High School in 1950 and Gould Academy in 1951. He went on to get his B.S degree in Physical Education in 1955 from Springfield College, where he also received his Masters degree in guidance and psychology in 1965.
Mr. Schumann served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957 as an SP3 in El Paso, Tex.
He was employed by DeVeaux School in Niagara Falls, N.Y. from 1957 to 1960, Philips Academy, Andover, Mass. from 1960 to 1963, and Springfield College as Assistant Director of Admissions and Director of Career Planning and Placement from 1963 to 1986. After his retirement, he worked at his most favorite job evah at the Ocean Point Inn as Head of Maintenance, Ocean Point.
He loved skiing, basketball, baseball, football, and had a passion to fix anything and everything. He was the life of the party and enjoyed a good cold Bud Lite with family and friends.
Doug was an exceptional man who loved his family and friends unconditionally. Always available to lend a helping hand to one in need, especially if you needed something fixed. He had the most gorgeous blue eyes, which with his outstanding personality will be his trademark forever. He was a very loving and understanding father and grandfather and was loved by his children and grandchildren especially! All who loved him will miss him immensely. Thank you to all who helped support him and who are still supporting his family and friends. He had many near and far.
Doug is predeceased by parents, Harold C. and Eva M. Schumann; and brothers, Grant, Wayne, and Dwight Schumann.
He is survived by one son, Jeffrey D. Schumann and wife Elizabeth Schumann and her two children, Thomas E. Duby and Christopher Duby, of Agawam, Mass.; one daughter, Kathryn L. Karlok and husband Danial J. Karlok and their two children, Dylan J. Karlok and Kevin D. Karlok of Niskaguna, N.Y.; companion, Jean Schenck of East Boothbay; former wife and friend Nancy F. Schumann of Springfield, Mass.; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Celebration of his life 1 p.m., Tues., July 11 at the Wilson Memorial Chapel at Ocean Point with a reception following at the Ocean Point Inn at 2 p.m.
