Duane Norman Brown, 61, of East Union, died July 12 at Penobscot Bay Medical Center, after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was born March 16, 1945 in Belfast. He attended Union School and graduated from Georges Valley High School.
After school, he served in the army for two years, one of which was spent in Vietnam. He also worked for Mike Creamer’s Volkswagen Garage, Stetson Auto Sales, Barker’s Garage, self-employed at Brown’s Auto, owned and operated blueberry fields, and spent the last seventeen years at Osram Sylvania where he was a machine tech, the furnace technician, and traveled to Czech Republic to setup the new plant.
His natural talent in life was to study, analyze, fix and improve anything computerized or motorized.
His favorite pastime was boating with family and friends at his camp on Moosehead Lake. He also enjoyed hunting locally with his family.
His greatest passion was being surrounded by his family. At family gatherings he spent his time video recording the event and sampling the spread of home-cooked food.
He was predeceased by his parents, Norman and Arlene Grinnell Brown of Union; father-in-law, Ducky Moon of Union; and brother-in-law, Robert Moon of Warren.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Phyllis Moon Brown of Union; sons, Christopher Brown and wife Kristina of Waldoboro, and Michael Brown and wife Julie of Hope; daughter, Michelle Brown Billings and husband Pete of Hope; grandchildren, Kayla Simmons of Waldoboro, Taylor Packard of Hope, Nicole and Olivia Brown of Hope, Shelby and Travis Shallow of Rockland, Macy Dinsmore of Hope, Laticia Billings of Hope, and Sarah and Nathaniel Brown of Waldoboro; brother, Travis Brown and wife Anita of Union; mother and father-in-law, Abbie and John Belyea of Rockland; sisters-in-law, Patricia Mahoney and husband Andy of Saco, and Pamela Dodge and husband Judson of Union; brothers-in-law, Roger Moon of Brunswick, Ronald Moon of Waldoboro, William Sawyer and wife Debbie of South Thomaston, and Stephen Sawyer and wife Judy of Warren; and many nieces and nephews.
