Dwayne L. Boynton, 55, of Bristol, passed away unexpectedly on Aug. 22 at his home. He was born on May 16, 1956 in Damariscotta to Fred W. Boynton and Abby Burns Boynton.
Dwayne was a graduate of Lincoln Academy, class of 1974. He attended SMTC (formerly known as SMVTI) for heating and air conditioning. He enjoyed playing rugby for the Portland Rugby Club and gained life-long friends.
He joined Carmen Knipe Plumbing and Heating in 1976. In 1977, he began working for Tidewater Telecom (formerly Continental Telephone) in Damariscotta. He retired from the telephone company in 1987, and bought Carmen Knipe Plumbing and heating.
In June of 1977, he married Patricia Tootell of Andover, Conn., and had two children: David Wesley born in April of 1979, and Elizabeth Michelle, born in December of 1981.
Dwayne was elected selectman of Bristol from 1981-1988 and again from 1996-2005. He enjoyed being involved in the Lions Club, lobster bakes, bowling teams at DePatsy’s, and traveling, especially family trips to Florida in his R.V. He loved fishing trips with Waino Autio and David Osier Sr.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Patricia Boynton of Bristol; daughter, Elizabeth of Cape Coral, Fla.; son, David and wife Liz Morse of Dunbarton, N.H.; grandson, Broderick William Boynton, who was born on Dec. 10, 2010; brother, Fred Wesley Boynton Jr. and wife Kathleen of Topsham; niece, Denise Boynton of Topsham; nephew, Jonathan Boynton and wife Laura and their daughters, Kaleigh and Allison, all of Milton, Mass.; sister-in-law, Debbie Tootell Furman and husband Robert Furman; nephews, Andrew Furman of Portland and Matthew Furman of Waldoboro; aunt and uncle, Edna and Russell Creamer of Waldoboro; aunt, Alta Coit of California; as well as several cousins.
Visiting hours were Aug. 26 at Strong-Hancock Funeral Home and service was Aug. 27 at the Harrington Cemetery.
