Edgar Sergeant, Jr., 91, of Newcastle, died peacefully at The Lincoln Home on Sept. 1. Edgar was born in Nutley, N.J. on Jan. 15, 1920 to Edgar and Tacie Sergeant.
He graduated from the Governor Dummer Academy in 1938 and went on to graduate from Hamilton College and the Parson School of Design. He worked as an architectural draftsman after receiving training at the Pratt Institute.
Edgar was a veteran of World War II.
Edgar traveled extensively during his life and often wrote articles about his trips for the local Nutley paper. He was an avid plein air painter. Edgar also enjoyed playing tennis and ballroom dancing. He loved and always had dogs in his life.
In 1970 Edgar moved from Nutley to Glen Ridge, N.J., where he lived until 2008, when he moved to The Lincoln Home in Newcastle.
Edgar is survived by his five nieces and nephews, Tacie Ranson of Millville, N.J., Briscoe Ranson of Old Saybrook, Conn., Laurie Asche of Wiscasset, Jancie Olson of Bremen, and George Reynolds of Santa Cruz, Cal.
Edgar was a sweet and gentle man.
