Edith Carter Bennett, 85, of Waldoboro, died July 9 at Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport, following a brief illness.
Mrs. Bennett was born Sept. 30, 1921 in Waldoboro, the daughter of Sidney and Flora Wallace Carter. She attended South Waldoboro schools.
She was employed with several local factories, including the Paragon Button Factory in Waldoboro, sardine canneries in Port Clyde, and Medomak Canning Company.
A member of the First Baptist Church in Waldoboro, she loved her Lord and her faith. She also enjoyed reading, spending time with her family, attending family “get-togethers,” visiting her son’s home in Pennsylvania, traveling to Niagra Falls, N.Y., braiding rugs, and she loved to take road trips and eat ice cream.
Mrs. Bennett is predeceased by her husband, Vernon Bennett Sr.; an infant daughter, Nancy Jane Bennett; grandson, Gerald Rinnicks; and brother, Charles Maxwell.
Survivors include her daughter, Judith Simmons and husband Robert of Rockland; son, Vernon Bennett Jr. and wife Marian of Williamsport, Penn.; grandchildren, Gary Rennicks and Lisa Hamm both of Williamsport, Penn., and Kelly J. Kennedy of Brunswick; brother, Arthur Carter of Tenants Harbor; sister, Violet Burton and husband Albert of Spruce Head; 19 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours 6-8 p.m., Wed., July 11 at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro.
Celebration of Mrs. Bennett’s life 11 a.m., Thurs., July 12 at the First Baptist Church in Waldoboro.
Interment will be in Back Cove Cemetery, South Waldoboro.
