Edith L. Poland, 93, of Damariscotta, passed away on the morning of Nov. 30. Born in New Harbor on Jan. 1, 1917, she was the only child of Charles and Mary (Morton) Sherman.
Edith grew up in Cushing and South Bristol, and attended schools in both South Bristol and Thomaston. She married Orrin Poland and together the lived in New Harbor, where they raised their six children.
She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary in New Harbor. She loved to cook, and her CB Radio handle was “Biscuit Maker.”
She is survived by her children, Fred Poland and longtime companion Evelyn Winchenbach of Waldoboro, Ellen Rice and husband Merrill of New Harbor, Arthur Poland and wife Trish of Walpole, Bucky Poland of Florida, Mary Stevens and husband Perley of Skowhegan and Stuart Poland and wife Iris of Walpole; 24 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside service 12 p.m., Sun., Dec. 5 at the New Harbor Cemetery.
