Edith Miller, 82, of Bath, died March 11 at HillHouse Assisted Living in Bath.
She was born in Bath on Aug. 24, 1929, a daughter of Herbert and Claire (Norton) King.
She lived all her life in Bath and graduated from Morse High School in the class of 1946. After her graduation from Morse she went to work as a bookkeeper at Senter’s Inc., and then to Markson Brothers Clothes until she married Lawrence Gallagher in 1949. They had four sons. She liked being room mother for her children at their school. She participated in their achievements, science fairs and sports. She worked 10 years in the mail room at Pine Tree Society until retiring in 1993.
Her first husband passed away in 1981 and in 1983 she married Malcolm J. Miller, who was so precious to her. They enjoyed many things together, especially her extended family whom she loved so much.
She learned to play the piano at a young age. She enjoyed bowling and belonged to the Two Leagues Traveler’s League and the Bath Iron Works League. She liked swimming and boating at their cottage at Damariscotta Lake. Edith (Edie to her family) loved baking and cooking, especially to share with others. She loved animals, her black lab, Scout and her cat, Bo-Bo. She enjoyed reading and music, especially singing in the church choir. She loved her church family at Corliss Street Baptist Church where she was secretary and treasurer of the Sunday school for many years. She served on the Deaconate Board as Deaconess. She belonged to the ABC Women’s Group and the Caring Committee and she always had a smile for everybody.
She was predeceased by her husband, Malcolm J. Miller on Nov. 9, 2010; her oldest son, Larry Gallagher in 2009; and brother, Herbert King.
She is survived by sons, Michael Gallagher of Bath, David Gallagher and wife Helen of Bristol, and Timothy Gallagher of El Paso, Tex.; several grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and extended family, Sharon and Steve Kempel, Bruce and Carol Miller and Dennis and Janet Miller.
Visiting hours 5-7 p.m., Thurs., March 15 at Daigle Funeral Home, 819 High St., Bath. Funeral service 11 a.m., Fri., March 16 at the funeral home with Rev. Andrew Sullivan officiating. A gathering of family and friends will follow at the Corliss Street Church Annex on Middle Street, Bath. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Bath.
