Edna Mabel Nelson, 95, passed away on Jan. 26 at the Pillsbury Manor in South Burlington, Vt. She was born April 21, 1922 in Union, daughter of Marion and Mabel (Ross) Smith. She was employed at Backus Hospital, Norwich, Conn. Upon her retirement in 1986 she moved to the family homestead at Clarey Hill Road, Union.
She was married to James Nelson on April 15, 1944. He predeceased her in 1973.
She was educated in Versailles and Norwich, Conn.
Edna was a member of Versailles United Methodist Church, Versailles, Conn., Eastern Star, Norwich, Conn. and Willow Grange in Jefferson.
Edna was a sweet, loving, and devoted mother, grandmother, great- grandmother and friend. What joy was felt around her dining room table laughing and telling stories while sharing her delicious macaroni and cheese. She loved to take ‘surprise’ driving adventures and to visit the fairs with her cousin Eunice Flagg. Time spent anywhere on the Maine coast was a joy to her. She loved all animals, especially dogs, cats and horses. Her beloved dog Moxie was her companion for many years.
She was predeceased by sons, James A. Nelson and Jeffrey L. Nelson.
Edna is survived by grandsons, Keith J. Nelson and wife Vicki, and Kyle L. Nelson and wife Helen; adored great-grandchildren, Oliver Nelson, Josie Nelson, Henry Nelson, and Elena Nelson; daughter-in-law, Nancy Nelson; numerous cousins, a niece, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and numerous close friends and neighbors.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m., May 12, at the People’s United Methodist Church, Union, Reverend Elizabeth Bailey-Mitchell officiating. Burial is immediately following at Lakeview Cemetery, Union.
