Edward Albert Grant, 80, of Wiscasset, passed away April 23 at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick. He suffered from asbestosis related pulmonary disease and ultimately metastatic lung cancer.
He was born on July 2, 1930 in Boston, Mass., a son of Frank H. and Bridget M. (Danaher) Grant.
He grew up in Wiscasset and graduated from Wiscasset Academy in 1950. He lived in Danbury, Conn. for eight years and returned to Maine in 1964. He married Patricia Gagnon on Sept. 28, 1957. He was employed at Bath Iron Work, retiring in January of 1994.
He was an active member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Bath. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and served as a Eucharist Minister providing the Holy Eucharist to parishioners in nursing homes and residences. He had a close relationship with God and was an excellent example of what a Christian should be.
He was an avid sports fan. In particular he loved the New York Yankees.
He was predeceased by his parents and brothers, Francis William Grant and Harry Grant.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Patricia T. Grant of Wiscasset; daughters, Karen A. Grant of Portland and Maureen P. May and husband Dennis of Dover, N.H.; son, William E. Grant and wife Theresa of Newaygo, Mich.; grandchildren, Kirsten May, Patrick May, Bridget Grant and Megan Grant; sister, Mae Shirley Hill of Wiscasset; and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., Wed., April 27 at Daigle Funeral Home, 819 High St., Bath. Mass of Christian burial 11 a.m., Thurs., April 28 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 144 Lincoln St., Bath. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Wiscasset.
