Edward Donald Grant Jr., a native of Nashville, Tenn. and Richmond, Va., long-time resident of Baton Rouge, La., and summertime resident of Jefferson for over 45 years, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on June 19.
He was born on May 19, 1923. He attended Davidson College, and then proudly served his country in the Army Air Corps as a B-17 pilot in WWII, based with the 95th Heavy Bombardment Group in Horham, England. For his contribution to the liberation of concentration camps in Germany, he was honored by the Jewish Federation of Greater Baton Rouge. Ed was the proud founder of Grant Chemical Corporation in Baton Rouge, La.
He was very active in the preservation of Clary Lake in Jefferson and served as past president of the Clary Lake Association. He attended St. Giles Episcopal Church in Jefferson during the summer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward D. Grant Sr. and Georgia Voyles Grant; and mother-in-law, Lydia Baxter MacDonald and husband Judge Paul A. MacDonald.
He is survived by his wife, Lydia “Diane” Grant; children, Edward D. Grant III of Ketchum, Ida., James S. Grant of Cape Coral, Fla., Chris R. Grant and wife Cindy of Henderson, Nev., and Kate Grant Seba and husband David of Baton Rouge, La.; stepchildren, William “Bill” Spann Jr. and wife Janie, Ronnie Spann and wife Sheryl, and Lydia Neustrom, all of Baton Rouge, La.; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; cousin, Mary Jim McDonald of Texas; and brother-in-law, Thomas Gillette and wife Delph, also of Texas.
At Ed’s request, no funeral will be held.
