Edward “Eddie” Arthur Ashton, 70, of Wiscasset, died unexpectedly Oct. 11 at a Damariscotta hospital.
He was born in Wolfboro, N.H., a son of Arthur S. and Kathleen Reed Ashton. He attended Woolwich and Bath schools and served in the U.S. Navy.
Eddie worked as a mechanic most of his life until forced to retire because of poor health. His hobby was working on street rods and restoring antique cars and trucks.
He was predeceased by his parents, a brother, Arthur Ashton Jr., a sister, Roxanne Ashton Danche in 2000, and her daughter Rhonda Owens in 2008.
He leaves six children, Ellen King Boucher of Mariaville, Kathy Nix of Augusta, Joseph Ashton of Wiscasset, Nikkia Ashton of Hew Hampshire, Theodore “Ted” Ashton and Kevin Ashton, both of Veazie; three brothers, Cleveland, Charles, and Marc Ashton; sister-in-law, Glenice Ashton, all of Wiscasset; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Graveside memorial service 1 p.m., Wed., Oct. 22 at the family lot in Oak Grove Cemetery, Bath.
