Edward H. Mahler, 79, of Hyde Park, N.Y., and previously of Amenia, N.Y., and Round Pond, passed away Feb. 3 at Albany Medical Center, Albany, N.Y.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on July 16, 1927, he was the son of the late Edward J. and Johannah H. Hoefhner Mahler.
A graduate of Alexander Hamilton Vocational High School in Brooklyn, N.Y., and Oswego State Teachers College in New York, he received his Masters degree from New York University.
Mr. Mahler was an industrial arts teacher for 30 years. During his teaching career, he taught at Sayville High School and Center Moriches High School, both on Long Island, N.Y. He retired in June 1983, from Dover High School in Dover Plains, N.Y.
He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.
On April 11, 1954, in Blue Point, N.Y., he married Norma J. Falk.
Upon retirement, he moved to Round Pond with his wife to a home he built. He established a woodworking business called Heirloom Woodworks, where he did custom woodworking.
Mr. Mahler was of the Lutheran faith, and a member of the Bristol Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M in Bristol and the I.O.O.F. in Round Pond.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Edna Behrendt, and nephew, Steven Behrendt.
He is survived by his wife; son, Tim Mahler of Staatsburg, N.Y.; daughters, Judy Chiello and husband Wayne of Stamford, Conn., Debie Keck and husband Philip of Hyde Park, N.Y., and Laura Mahler of Pleasant Valley, N.Y.; grandchildren, Christine and William Chiello and Timmy Keck; daughter-in-law, Donyelle Mahler of Hyde Park, N.Y.; and nephew, Jeffrey Behrendt of LaGrange, N.Y.
Calling hours 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 3-6 p.m., Wed., Feb. 7 at Sweet’s Funeral Home, Rte. 9, Hyde Park, N.Y.
Memorial Service will take place at 5 p.m. during the calling hours, with Rev. James W. Moore officiating.
In accordance with Mr. Mahler’s wishes, cremation will take place at the convenience of the family.
