Edward H. Whitney, 67, of Damariscotta, entered into eternal rest surrounded by his family on July 17 at Togus VA Medical Center in Augusta.
Mr. Whitney was born Oct. 4, 1938 in Union, the son of Marion and Clarence Whitney. He attended schools in Union and entered the U.S. Navy in 1955, where he served honorably as a signalman aboard the aircraft carrier CVS Wasp.
In 1958, he married Judith L. Weston of Warren.
After completing his military service, Mr. Whitney and his family returned to Maine where he entered barbering school. He began a lifelong career as a barber, working first at Ploure’s Barbershop in Rockland, and later at Al Nichol’s Barbershop. In 1967, Mr. Whitney bought Leighton’s Barbershop in Damariscotta, the site of Whitney’s Barbershop today. Only the love he had for his family surpassed his devotion to his shop and customers.
