Edward P. Daniels, Jr., 82, of Newcastle, died Oct. 9 at Coves Edge, Damariscotta of congestive heart failure.
He was the husband of June (Watson) Daniels.
Born in Boston on May 26, 1924, he was the son of the late Rev. Dr. Edward Perry Daniels, Minister Emeritus of The First Parish in Concord, Mass.
A genealogical enthusiast, and a direct descendant of both Francis Cooke and Stephen Hopkins of The Mayflower, and other well known early colonists.
He attended Fenn School and the public schools of Concord, graduated from Harvard College, class of 1949, and The Harvard Business School in 1951.
During WWII, he served as an aviation cadet and then as a Gunner’s Mate 3/c, in the U.S. Navy’s Armed Guard on merchant ships. During the Korean War, he was a First Lieutenant on the staff of the Director of Supplies and Services of The Air Material Command and was awarded a Commendation Ribbon for his service.
Mr. Daniels retired from Mobil Corporation where he was a financial executive for 22 years. Prior to that he was a division controller in the Cryovac organization of W.R. Grace & Co.
He joined the Concord Independent Battery when it was reactivated in 1947. He was particularly proud of having ridden with the Battery in the parades celebrating the 175th, 200th, and 225th anniversaries of the Battle of Concord and Lexington.
During his 19-year residence in Darien, Conn., he was a member of the Representative Town Meeting for 10 years and served on the Rules Committee for many of those years. He was also a member of the Senior Men’s Association.
In Newcastle, he was a Director of the Skidompha Public Library serving the residents of Newcastle and Damariscotta.
In addition to his wife, June, he is survived by sons, Martin Peck Daniels of New Canaan, Conn. and Edward P. Daniels III of St. Petersburg, Fla.; daughter, Karen Daniels of Killington, Vt.; six grandchildren; and sister, Mary D. Sohier of Malvern, Penn.
Private services will be held at the convenience of his family.
