Edwin “Beepa” G. Stockford, Jr., 63, of Wiscasset, passed on Sept. 6 at home surrounded by family and friends.
He was born in Bath on Jan. 29, 1946, the son of Edwin and Beatrice (Morris) Stockford. Ed attended local schools and graduated from WHS class of 1964. Ed was a man of many talents, showcasing those attributes as: a member of the U.S. Army, Nash’s Telephone Company, marine worm digger, and a welder at Bath Iron Works until finally retiring in 1993.
For over 40 years Ed was a well-known horse puller throughout New England. He and his wife would travel to local fairs and horse pulls and touched many lives along the way. From 2001-2005 Ed was involved with the International Horse Pull in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia.
He was predeceased by his parents, and a brother Alvin D. Stockford.
Ed is survived by his loving wife, Connie; sisters, Charlotte G. Dorr and husband Robert of Dresden, and Cova Greig and husband “Bud”; sister-in-law, Jayne E. Stockford; two sons, LittleBig Ed and fiancée Marie of Wiscasset, and Bert and wife Tracy of Whitefield; two stepchildren, Vicki and companion Leroy, and Bill and wife Jenny; many nieces and nephews including a special nephew, Toby Stockford; and 11 grandchildren, Sarah, Dylan, Dustin, “Kay Kay”, Josh, Nick, Megan, Ken, Kevin, AnnElise, and Brianna.
Not only did Ed touch the lives of his grandchildren, but was known to make any child smile when he came into a room. He loved children.
Celebration of his life 1 p.m., Sat., Sept. 19 at Huntoon Hill Grange, Huntoon Hill Rd., Wiscasset. Everyone is welcome.
