Eino Hjalmar Abbott, 61, of Waldoboro, passed away July 10 at Maine Medical Center in Portland after a brief period of failing health.
Eino was born Sept. 26, 1950 in Boothbay Harbor, the son of Merritt and Helmi Lampinen Abbott, and was a graduate of Medomak Valley High School. Upon his graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam, as part of the 1st Signal Brigade.
After his discharge, Eino began a 22-year career with Bath Iron Works as a ship fitter. He was also employed by Dow Furniture and assisted his wife with the operating of their two redemption businesses, Abbott’s Redemption and Nanny Redemption, both located in Waldoboro.
Eino enjoyed spending time with his family, tending his flower gardens, watching westerns, drawing with his grandchildren, doing crossword puzzles, and grew to love caring for their dog Chloe and cat Mr. Bubbles. He was a member of the Grange for more than 25 years.
Eino is predeceased by his brothers-in-law, Pat Hoch and Jack Pauley.
Survivors include wife, Mary Ann Abbott of Waldoboro; daughters, Angela Severy and husband David of Chelsea, Michelle L. Littlefield and husband Christopher of Biddeford, Karen S. Abbott and husband Eduardo Gomez of Dover, N.J., and Cindy Abbott of Waldoboro; grandchildren, Christopher Knowles of Chelsea and Afghanistan, Joshua Severy and partner Kelly Peterson of Windsor, Zachary Severy, Rebecca-Ann Severy, both of Chelsea, Sebastien M. Littlefield of Biddeford, Oliver Gomez of Dover, N.J., Dustin Abbott of Waldoboro, Alissa Cunningham of Skowhegan, and Von Cunningham of Friendship; great-grandson, Benjamin Severy of Windsor; sisters, Nancy Post and husband Henry, Viola Hoch, June Pauley, Debbie Turner and husband Dale, all of Waldoboro, Senja Baker and husband Larry of Nobleboro, and Pamela Thibodeau and husband Bob; brother, John Abbott and wife Kathy, all of Union; and countless nieces and nephews.
Interment with military honors 2 p.m., Thurs., July 19 at the Maine Veterans Cemetery, Civic Center Dr., Augusta. A reception and celebration of Eino’s life will be held at the VFW Hall on Mill Street in Waldoboro immediately following. Family, friends, and loved ones are welcome to attend one or both ceremonies.
