Elaine Greenwood Coffin, 91, passed away at the Cove’s Edge Nursing Facility in Damariscotta on the morning of March 19. Born in Lowell, Mass. on Jan. 20, 1924, she was the daughter of Mildred Barber Greenwood and Laurence Jennison Greenwood of Billerica, Mass.
Elaine attended Billerica schools, graduating from Howe High School with the class of 1942. She went on to graduate from Boston University in 1945, where she was active in the Pi Phi Sorority. She was employed by Remington Rand as a trainer of key punch operators.
On Oct. 8, 1949, she married Peter N. Coffin of Billerica, Mass. In 1955, the Coffins moved to Hamilton, Mass. where Elaine kept busy raising their two daughters, Deborah and Martha. She was active in Christ Church, Episcopal, where she sang in the choir and worked with church organizations.
A devoted mother and wife, her sweet nature kept the family in balance. The Coffins moved to Damariscotta upon Peter’s retirement in 1987, where Elaine was active with the Twin Village Women’s Club. Elaine enjoyed gardening, music, visiting with friends and shopping.
Besides her parents, Elaine was predeceased by her daughter, Deb Coffin.
She is survived by husband, Peter Coffin of Damariscotta; daughter, Martha and husband Wesley Reed of Vinalhaven; and granddaughter, Natalie Reed of Gray.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Thurs., April 2 at the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main St., Damariscotta, with the Rev. Lu-Anne Conner officiating.
