Eleanor Marion Cornish Martin, 86, of Bristol, passed away Oct. 17 at the Woonsocket Health Centre, in Woonsocket, RI.
She was born Nov. 13, 1920, in York, the daughter of Reverend Grube B. Cornish and Susan M. Cornish.
She was the widow of George L. Martin.
Eleanor attended schools in Augusta and Litchfield, N.H. and graduated from Central High School, in Manchester, N.H.; Westbrook Junior College in Portland and Colby College in Waterville.
Upon her graduation from Colby, she was employed for 12 years as a social worker with the Maine Bureau of Social Welfare. During that time she lived in Portland, So. Paris, Bridgton, Rockland and Lincoln County. She also worked part-time at the office of the Bristol Selectmen for a number of years.
Eleanor was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Litchfield, the Phi Mu Sorority, the Deering Chapter OES and was a past member of the Pemaquid Historical Association, The Blaisdell and Colby associations, as well as the Pemaquid Chapter DAR.
She is survived by her children, Susan Martin and husband Bernard Lemos of Cumberland, R.I., George Martin, Jr. and wife Nancy of Duxbury, Mass., Anna Sprague and husband Dwayne of So. Portland; grandchildren, Rebecca and William Lemos, Beatrice, David and Henry Whitney, and Kathryn Sprague, as well as several cousins.
She will be laid to rest, with a private family graveside service, at the Ocean Hill Cemetery, Chamberlain.
