Eleanor Partridge Small, 91, passed away peacefully on a beautiful, sunny afternoon, March 16 surrounded by family members at her home in Chamberlain, a place dear to her heart since her youth.
She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Capt. Harold L. Small, who shared her life through the good times and served her faithfully through her end-of-life challenges.
Born in Boston on July 26, 1923, Ellie grew up in Weston, Mass. After her marriage to R. West Partridge in 1946, Ellie called Augusta and Manchester her home until making Chamberlain her permanent home in 1978.
Ellie will always be remembered for her ready sense of humor, sharp wit, easy graciousness, and ability to make lasting friendships.
Ellie was predeceased by her first husband, West Partridge; parents, George and Eunice Pingree; sister, Ruth Carter; and great-granddaughter, Anna Grace Hartsock.
She will be fondly remembered by her children, Barbara Partridge Thurston of Maumee, Ohio, and Robert W. Partridge Jr. of Cape Haze, Fla.; stepson, Gordon (Ryoko) Small of Rye, N.Y.; grandchildren, Rebecca Thurston (Frank) Hartsock of Maumee, Ohio, Amy Partridge (Brad) Graham of Raleigh, N.C., James I. Thurston III of Maumee, Ohio, and Sean and Sora Small of Rye, N.Y.; great-grandchildren, Hayden, Hunter and Ella Graham and Corinne and Chase Hartsock; and friend and caregiver in her final months, Jim Thurston of Walpole.
A memorial will be held later this summer in Chamberlain.
