Elena N. Sdobnev, 96, of Dresden, passed away peacefully on March 4 at her home after a long illness.
Elena was born in Russia on April 26, 1913. After a difficult life in Russia, Yugoslavia, and Argentina, Elena came to the United States in 1959. Five years later, she became a very proud American citizen. Elena worked in New York Presbyterian Hospital as a lab technician for sixteen years, then retired to Dresden in 1978.
Elena is survived by daughter Nina Drage of Dresden; son, Eugene Sdobnev and wife Ellen of Owego, N.Y.; grandchildren, Serge Drage of Bangor, Kathryn Drage of Gardiner, Michael Drage of Dresden, Tatiana Sdobnev of New York, Eugene Sdobnev Jr. of Arizona, and Nadia Vanderpool of New York; and seven great-grandchildren.
Burial service 1 p.m., Mon., April 26 at Pine Grove Cemetery in Dresden. Father Chad Williams of St. Alexander Nevsky Russian Orthodox Church will preside.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Elena’s memory be made to Healthreach Homecare & Hospice, 150 Dresden Ave., Gardiner, ME 04345.
