Elizabeth “Betsy” Mattingly, 80, of Washington, passed away on the afternoon of July 6 at Cove’s Edge Nursing Facility in Damariscotta. Born in Cleveland, Ohio on Aug. 16, 1930, she was the daughter of Thomas and Gertrude (Doyle) Shannon.
As a child Betsy moved to, and grew up in Connecticut, but lived in many different states throughout her life. She finally came to Maine about eight years ago to be closer to her son in Washington.
She loved to sew and enjoyed knitting and gardening. She was also a very active member of the Washington Village Baptist Church.
Besides her parents, Betsy was predeceased by a sister, Carol Johnson; as well as brothers, William and Daniel Shannon.
She is survived by her children, Shannon Wooden of Washington, Paul Wooden and wife Jane of Thomaston, Conn., Dawn Keeney of Georgia and Greg Mattingly of Ohio; sister, Gail Sullivan of Waterbury, Conn.; as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorial service 6 p.m., Tues., July 19 at the Washington Village Baptist Church.
