Elizabeth M. “Betty” Buzzell, 73, of Jefferson, died Sept. 12 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Tucson, Ariz. after a brief illness. She was born in Limestone on Sept. 15, 1934, the daughter of Carl Hendricksen and Isabelle (Thompson) Hendricksen.
Mrs. Buzzell was a 1953 graduate of Cony High School of Augusta.
She was employed by Bond Grocery of Jefferson for 12 years. She was previously employed by Hazzard Shoe Co., New England Telephone Co. and Colonial Packers.
Mrs. Buzzell served on the Jefferson School Board and had been active in the Maine Army National Guard Family Support Group.
She was predeceased by her parents; sister and brother-in-law, Ella and Thomas King; brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Pat Hendricksen; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary and John McGuire; brothers-in-law Charles McGuire and Paul Spencer, and mother-in-law, Myrle Buzzell.
Surviving are her husband of 50 years, Avon W. Buzzell of Jefferson; son, Jeffrey Buzzell and wife Jeanne of Chelsea; daughter, Catherine Reynolds and husband Jeffrey of Augusta; step-daughter, Theresa McConnell of Dayton, Ohio; sister, Helen Dorgan and husband John of Tucson, Ariz.; six grandchildren, Elysabeth (Brian) Armstrong, Ashley Reynolds, Carrie Reynolds, Jessica Buzzell, Max McConnell and Vincent McConnell; four great-grandchildren, Brody and Brooklyn Armstrong, Dominique Duplin and Brandon Buzzell; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Avon and Ursel Buzzell of St. Petersburg, Fla.; sisters-in-law, Catherine Spencer, Lucille McGuire, Sandy Franklyn and husband Rusty; brothers-in-law, Hugh Buzzell and wife Khatuna, and Sidney Buzzell and wife Jeannette; nieces and nephews, Helyn (Dale) Dorgan, Maryellen (Billy) McBee, John (Lisa) Dorgan, Jimmy Dorgan, Joey Dorgan, Pat Stafford, Paul Spencer, Robert (Lorna) Spencer, Eddie (Melanie) McGuire, Judy (Paul) Potvin, Timmy (Gloria) McGuire, Peter (Darla) McGuire, Michael McGuire, Robert McGuire, Thomas (Pam) King, Michael King, Susie Holmes, Galen (Lorie) Franklyn, Kristi (Tim) Smith, Rebecca Franklyn, Billy (Lori) Buzzell, Kim (Wesley) Westcott, Cindy (Johnny) Osborn, Christopher Buzzell, Charlene Buzzell, Jonathan Buzzell, and Alta (James) LaTerra; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
Visiting hours 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Fri., Sept. 19 at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Sat., Sept. 20. Burial will be at a later date in Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta.
