Elizabeth C. Marr, of Scarborough, died June 26 at Coastal Manor Nursing Home in Yarmouth.
She was born March 7, 1909 on Southport Island, the daughter of Thurman and Bessie Reed Alley.
Elizabeth graduated from East Maine Conference Seminary, Bucksport in 1926 and was a graduate of Farmington Normal School in 1930. She was a teacher for 10 years in the Boothbay Region, Newagen and West Boothbay Harbor primary grades. She loved teaching the pupils and all the cooperation she received from their parents.
She married Wolcott H. Marr, Jr. in 1937. For most of their married life they resided in the family homestead on Marr’s Point, West Southport. As Wolcott was a Chief Boatswain mate in the USN, they resided in Newport Rhode Island and Norfolk, Va.
Elizabeth was a member of Southport United Methodist Church, also the United Methodist Women, the Benevolent Society, Mother’s Club and served on the Southport School committee.
She was predeceased by her husband, Wolcott who died in 1991; sister, Dorothy Brewer of Southport; and two brothers, Walter Alley of Rhode Island and Richard Alley of Southport.
Surviving family include two daughters, Karen Poore and husband Rodney of Scarborough, and Winnie St. Laurent of West Newfield; six grandchildren, Roger Drinkwater, Jr. of Southport, Cynthia Beaulieu of Scarborough, Elisa Trepanier of Raymond, Nathan Poore of Kennebunkport, Andrew Poore of Falmouth, and Erin Dupree of Old Orchard; twelve great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Funeral service 11 a.m., Tues., June 30 at the Southport Methodist Church followed by a graveside ceremony at Union Cemetery, West Southport. Lisa Burger will officiate.
