Ella K. Hersom, 82, of Dresden, passed away peacefully on Oct. 16 with her sons by her side. She had resided at Safe Havens at St. Andrews Village in Boothbay Harbor for the past two years.
She was born May 8, 1936 in Dresden to Ethelwyn (Reed) Knowlton and Sherman Knowlton. She graduated from Bridge Academy in Dresden in 1953.
She married Robert S. Hersom Sr. in October 1953. She worked as a waitress at The Ledges Inn in Wiscasset before going to Bath Iron Works where she worked in the purchasing department for over 35 years.
Ella had a passion for horses. For over 20 years the family travelled all over the state every weekend to attend a horse show.
Ella and Bob had many happy years going up to camp in Greenville where the family spent time snowmobiling and just relaxing.
Ella and Bob enjoyed bowling, watching NASCAR, motorcycling, playing cards and listening to country music.
After Bob’s death, Ella spent time playing games on the computer, watching game shows and Animal Planet and reading books about cats. She loved cats and almost always had at least one at home.
Ella was predeceased by her husband, Bob in 1994; and all of her siblings: brother, John; and sisters, Ramona, Nellie and Roberta.
Surviving are sons, Randal of Dresden, and Robert and wife Vickie of Wiscasset; grandsons, Daniel and fiancee Amanda, and Nicholas, all of Brunswick; sister-in-law, Cleora Knowlton of Wells; and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m., Sat., Oct. 27 at Staples Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner.
