Ella Marie Meservey, 88, of Rockland, passed away May 25 at Pen Bay Hospital in Rockport. Ella was born Jan. 4, 1918, in Warren, a daughter of William and Blanch Richards Simmons.
Ella was a graduate of Warren Academy and later married Clifton W. Meservey on June 27, 1942, making their home in Warren before moving to Waldoboro where they lived for 32 years raising their children. In 1960, they moved back to Warren and she helped Clifton work on their chicken farm until they retired due to illness.
Ella enjoyed being a homemaker and loved spending time with her family. She loved to crochet and made beautiful baby clothes for all of her grandchildren.
Ella was a member of the Warren Grange in Warren and was Lady Secretary and Treasurer as well as being the Past State Deputy – 7th degree of the Maine State Grange and a member of the Pioneer Grange in Union. She was also a member of the West Rockport Baptist Church.
Ella was predeceased by her husband, Clifton Meservey, in 2004.
Survivors include her sons, William Meservey and wife Theresa of Emery, S.D., and Raymond Meservey and wife Glenna of Cushing; daughter, Louise Lufkin of Warren; sister, Irene Drake and husband Otis of St. Augustine, Fla.; grandchildren, Raymond Meservey and wife Lori of Warren, Debra Joselyn and husband Steven of N. Whitefield, Jason Meservey of Cushing, Kimberly Foster and husband Scott of Washington, William R. Meservey and wife Debra of Warren, Heather Meservey of Rockland, and Amy Wheelis and husband Robert of Union; nine great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; two nieces; and one nephew.
Graveside service 1 p.m., Tues., May 30 at Shepard Cemetery in Jefferson with Rev. Vernon Jordan officiating.
