Ella Williams Verge, 89, of Waldoboro, died Feb. 5 at Cove’s Edge in Damariscotta, surrounded by her family.
She was born July 4, 1921 in Rockland, a daughter of the late Fred and Janie Williams.
On June 22, 1939 Ella married Woodrow J. Verge in Friendship. Over the years she worked at the Lobster Pot in Friendship and the Friendship Village School where she retired after 21 years of preparing meals for students in the school’s kitchen.
Ella was a founding member of the Friendship Ambulance, and was a member of the Friendship and Waldoboro United Methodist Churches. She enjoyed traveling with her husband on bus tours, shopping at lawn sales and cooking. Her greatest joy was her family.
In addition to her loving husband of more than 71 years of Waldoboro, Ella is survived by son, Dana R. Verge and wife Donalene (Dow) of Thomaston; granddaughter, Sonia V. Bates and companion Douglas Raye of Cushing; great-grandsons, Shane D. Verge, Garrett S. Bates, Trevor Bates and Michael Raye, all of Cushing; great-granddaughter, Caitlin D. Raye of Cushing; sister, Margaret Hysom of Rockland; and special friends and neighbors, Paul and Holly Smeltzer and their children Aaron and Cassi of Waldoboro.
Graveside service 1 p.m., Sat., May 21 at the Roadside Cemetery, Waldoboro Rd. (Rt. 220), Friendship.
