Ellen L. Walker, 64, of Jefferson, died Nov. 21 at Maine Veterans Home, Augusta, after an extended illness with her family and friends at her side. She was born in Gardiner on Nov. 11, 1945, the daughter of Sanford Booker and Lillian (Slocomb) Booker.
Mrs. Walker was employed by Maine Veterans Home in Augusta for several years. She was previously self-employed as a day care provider. She cared for many children that she treated as her own. She also worked at Joseph Kirschner Co. in Augusta for a time.
Mrs. Walker attended First Baptist Church of Jefferson and was a member of the Jefferson Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and Whitefield Lions Club.
Mrs. Walker enjoyed many, many camping trips with family, friends and extended family. She really looked forward to her “sister days” with her sisters and sister-in-law Kay. They would have lunch and play cards all day while reminiscing.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Walker, on April 9, 2008.
Surviving is daughter, Donna Walker-Mooers and husband Justin of Winthrop; son, Darin Walker and wife Kelly-Ann of Jefferson; sisters, Laura Buker and husband Bill of West Gardiner, Clara Hodgdon and husband Herbert Worry of Augusta, and Sandra Allen and husband Ray of Gardiner; brothers, Fred Booker and wife Gloria of Windsor and Danny Booker and wife Kay of Jay; grandchildren, Katie, Kimberly and Kyle; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Friends and relatives may visit 6-7 p.m., Tues., Nov. 24 at Plummer Funeral Home, 983 Ridge Rd., Rt. 32, Windsor. Funeral service 2 p.m., Wed., Nov. 25 at First Baptist Church, 24 Waldoboro Rd., Rt. 32, Jefferson. Burial will follow in Shepard Cemetery, Jefferson.
