Ellen Marie Stevens Schroeder passed away Aug. 2 at the Country Manor Nursing Home, Coopers Mills.
She was born in Damariscotta to Pauline A. Brackett Stevens and Arthur “Runt” Stevens in March, 1925. She graduated with honors from Lincoln Academy in 1942 and married her high school sweetheart, Carroll L. Schroeder that fall. Carroll served in WWII and after his return from the service they lived in Newcastle, Yarmouth and Westport Island. They were married for 40 years before his death in 1982.
Ellen was involved in many charities and women’s organizations, including volunteering at the Lincoln Home Thrift Store and the Westport Fire Department for over 30 years.
Ellen was predeceased by her parents and brothers, Arthur and Merle Stevens.
She is survived by her half-sister, Pat Stout; son, David L. Schroeder and wife Beth of Cape Elizabeth; daughter, Becky J. Sawyer and partner Roger Burleigh of Westport Island; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three-great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Per Ellen’s request there will be no services.
