Elsie B. Lash, 84, of Friendship, died July 16 surrounded by her loving family, following an extended illness at the Knox Center for Long Term Care in Rockland.
Born Aug. 29, 1923, in Jefferson, she was the daughter of Ernest and Nancie Sprowl Bond. Elsie attended Jefferson High School for two years where she was Valedictorian of her class. She finished her education at Cony High School.
Following high school, Elsie attended Gates Business College in Augusta.
On Aug. 1, 1947 Elsie married Harold W. Lash of Friendship. The wedding was held at her family’s home in Jefferson. The couple made their home in Friendship and has lived there ever since.
Elsie was a member of the Friendship United Methodist Church for 60 years, and was active in the Women’s Guild there. She also served as Tax Collector for nine years.
For many years Elsie was employed as a legal secretary for Strout, Adams, Payson and Pellicani Law Firm. She finished her career as a secretary at Knox Woolen Mill, a job she greatly enjoyed.
Elsie enjoyed gardening and kept beautiful flower gardens. She also took great pleasure in knitting and participated in a knitting group. Her family was the light of her life and she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and more recently her new great-grandson.
Elsie was predeceased by a brother Avery Bond and a sister Catherina McFarland.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Harold; son, Charles Lash of Friendship; daughters, Nancy Lehman and husband James of Friendship, and Joanne Genthner and husband Rodney of East Friendship; brother, Ellis Bond of Jefferson; a cousin who grew up as her sister, Mary Gwinn of Minnesota; grandchildren, Brooke Genthner of Tenants Harbor, and Rodney Genthner II of Friendship; great-grandson Kaden Lugar of Tenants Harbor; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial service 2 p.m., Tues., July 22 at Friendship United Methodist Church. The Reverend Robert Dorr will officiate.
