Elsie M. Eugley, 100, passed away peacefully on Sept. 6, a day before her 101st birthday. She was born on Sept. 7, 1911 in Amesbury, Mass., the only child of the late George L. and Lillian M. Davis Levensalar.
As a young girl Elsie spent summers in Waldoboro with her Grandmother Davis. After completing her schooling in Massachusetts, she returned to Waldoboro and met Ruel A. Eugley. They were married on Jan. 1, 1935 and raised four children.
Elsie was a homemaker and a housewife. Working beside her husband she ran a roadside business, The Hornet’s Nest Grill, selling fried clams. They had a fish market selling fresh fish and later established the Waldoboro Smokers, selling smoked alewives fondly remembered by many in the area.
Elsie enjoyed knitting, handiwork, local history, and bingo. She was an avid reader until her sight declined. She volunteered countless hours at Togus, the VA Hospital and remained a lifelong member of the American Legion Auxiliary Charles C. Lilly Post #149.
She was a member of the Waldoboro Senior Citizens, area sewing clubs, the Waldoboro Methodist Church and Meenahga Grange.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ruel A. Eugley; and son, Allen M. Eugley.
Survivors include daughters, Dawn Wright and husband, Jeffrey of Nobleboro, and Nancy E. Smith of Thomaston; son, Earlon R. Eugley of Maine and Florida; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside service 10 a.m., Wed., Sept. 19 at the German Cemetery in Waldoboro with Jean Lawrence officiating.
