Ericka L. Smith, 22, of Newcastle and Somerville, passed away peacefully July 15 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, surrounded by the people she loved.
She was born Jan. 27, 1988 in Lewiston, the daughter of Mark and Sarah Thompson. While growing up she attended the Governor Baxter School for the Deaf and was a graduate of Lewiston High School class of 2008.
After high school she began to volunteer at the Goodwill store in Augusta. She loved horseback riding and swimming. She was always up for a good pillow fight and was usually the instigator by throwing a stuffed animal at you and giggling. She was a true joy to the people around her and she had a smile that could light up any room.
She had a great purpose in life, a purpose to show all she met love and kindness. She brought joy and happiness into this world and to all that she met. With all of her limitations, she took life as it came with determination and love. We can all honor her by continuing her legacy by being happy and living life as it comes.
She was predeceased by a brother, Logan Jones.
Survivors include her parents Mark and Sarah Thompson of Somerville; brothers, Allen Smith of Somerville and Alex Thompson of Somerville; sisters, Korianna Thompson of Somerville and Lily Thompson of Somerville; maternal grandmother, Wendy Cunningham of Somerville; and uncle, Jason Daigneau of Somerville.
Time of visitation 6-8 p.m., Mon., July 19 at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro. Celebration of her life 2 p.m., Tues., July 20 at the Somerville Baptist Church with Pastor John Dancer officiating. Internment will be at the Sand Hill Cemetery in Somerville following the service.
