Ervine “Buster” G. Sproul, 90, of Newcastle, passed away at his home on the evening of Sept. 14, with his loving family by his side. Born in Bristol on May 14, 1923, he was the son of Fossett and Susie (Ervine) Sproul.
He grew up in Pemaquid Falls, graduating from Bristol High School, salutatorian of his class. He served in the Navy as an Aviation Machinist, honorably discharged in 1946. In 1948, he married Lila M. Gifford of Round Pond, raising their family in Pemaquid Falls for many years, before relocating to Newcastle in 1971.
Buster was a lifetime avid horseman, wood contractor and farmer. He had a lifelong love of people – friends of old, new, and ones to be and a desire to pass it on. His greatest source of pride and love though, was for his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and home.
Buster leaves children, Paul Sproul and wife Norma of Round Pond, Martha Blanc and husband Gene of Walpole, Susan Sewall and husband Richard of Round Pond, Amy Bissinger and husband Durell Bissinger Jr. of Phippsburg, and Margaret Sproul and husband Randy Wade of Newcastle; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
A service to honor Buster’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Fri., Sept. 20 at the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main St., Damariscotta. He will be laid to rest privately, at the Harrington Cemetery in Pemaquid.
In lieu of flowers, please share your memories of him with others.
